Joe Van Eeckhout is a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker, originally from the Pacific Northwest of the United States, currently based in Nairobi, Kenya where he covers the East Africa region and beyond. Recent documentary photo and film work has been featured by The Guardian, The New York Times, VICE News, Human Rights Watch and others.
His work primarily explores social and environmental issues with interests relating to climate change and conflict. He is often drawn to stories exploring the evolving relationship between humans and land. He holds a MA in New Media Photojournalism from the Corcoran School of Arts and Design at the George Washington University.
Van Eeckhout completed HEFAT certification by Hawthorne Proactive in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2017.
